To protect the point...
We’ve had to make a few rules to make the point work for us and our shore birds friends, many who are endangered or threatened species.
1. Please no entering the fenced in areas when our beach nester friends are nesting! That’s from March to October.
2. Please no dogs at the point, they are just too scary as chase and harass shorebirds.
3. No jet skis or boats can land on the point! It’s just to frightening for these little birds.
4. No kites on the point! They could land in their nesting area, way to scary!
5. No kite-surfing or kite buggying at the point! They frighten so easily and can even forget to finish nesting!
6. No vehicles on the point or near the nesting sites at the point! Permitted vehicles are allowed only near the surf line in the off season.
7. No feeding wildlife at the point! It upsets the delicate balance and encourages those gulls to be mean!
8. Please leave no litter of food as it encourages predators!
9. Be aware of birds calling loudly nearby, you are to close!
10. Teach others to appreciate the Point’s birds.
With these small steps the beach nesting birds can enjoy a protected environment to rebound from near extinction!
